Quiet Luxury: What is it and how does it relate to staging and design?

Quiet Luxury, or “Stealth Wealth”, is a term that is coined form the fashion world that speaks to the impression of a monied look without the logos or bright colors and patterns typically associated with a more “obvious” curated, personal look. We have all seen it even without ascribing a particular term to it.

Sometimes it’s the cut of a jacket or the arch of a kitten heel. It just LOOKS expensive, even if it’s not. In furniture and interiors, you might recognize it as an updated, yet classic line of a wing chair. Or the piping on that perfect midcentury couch. Even the velvet fabric of that inexpensive pillow cover. Think subdued elegance and simplicity and you have it!

Quiet luxury is the midpoint between minimalism and maximalism that exudes good taste but does so in a hushed tone versus a brash context of style. It is often represented through warm tones of muted neutrals (and you know we LOVE a good neutral).

When it comes to staging, the success of our luxury projects often lies not only in our curated furniture for the home, but the small touches that complete and elevate the look. To embody quiet luxury, we use a timeless, layered approach to both artwork and decor.

Our personal favorite for accents, or touches, that are timeless and elegant include tortoise shell anything, cashmere, houndstooth, sterling silver or anything with a campaign style (desk, chest or side table for example). Also, this is important: NEVER forget the power of a good statement lamp!

In your own home, rely on what you LOVE. Think outside the box for one of kind finds at thrift store and estate auctions for unique pieces. Quality is the key. Relying on well-made pieces with organic elements such as wood or stone will stand the test of time.

Locally, we love the following sources to find those one of kind curated looks:

The Old Lucketts Store

Lucketts is located in Leesburg, VA in a revamped 1800s general store building turned into a Vintage Hip store carrying old and new furniture and accessories. From architectural salvage to garden statuary and plants, The Old Lucketts Store is always worth a field trip. We have yet to walk away empty-handed. So gather the girls (or guys) together and make a trip out one weekend. But don’t blame us when you walk away with a trunk full of fun finds.

Chartreuse and Company

Located in Frederick, MD, Chartreuse and Company is a similar concept to Lucketts but with its own unique flair. It’s 6 acres of vintage home decor vendors who come together once a month to sell their products. Only open the third weekend of each month (with the exception of December) so plan accordingly! You can find out more on their website.

Hip and Humble

Hip and Humble is located in Berryville, VA in the historic Aylers Mill building. Beautifully displayed, it’s much smaller than Lucketts or Chartreuse, but you will find yourself traversing the spaces multiple times so as not to miss a single thing. They have a ton of unique finds, some have been repurposed and some are antiques waiting to be re-used.

Remember, quiet luxury doesn’t have to be expensive. Often times it’s the patina of a vintage object paired with a contemporary piece that CREATES the feel of quiet luxury. Experiment with what feels good to you, as well as what represents pieces that have meaning in your home.

If you are unsure how to achieve this in your own home, we are here to help you with your Northern Virginia home staging and design needs. Give us a call at 703-552-4545, or go online, to discuss how we might partner together.

We look forward to shining a spotlight on your home!
